Fellow Journeyman: Waseem Jadwat

If you could leave a message in a bottle (a very small message in a very small bottle), how would you introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Waseem, and I’m a coffeeholic.

What is your coffee-making ritual? (which brewing method do you use)

Depends on how much time I have, and my mood. French press is my first coffee love, but I’ve also grown partial to moka pot of late. If it’s just for me and I’m at home I prefer to Aeropress, but absolutely nothing comes close to the calming and almost meditative ritual of brewing with a Chemex – not to mention the incredible deliciousness!

If you could only drink one coffee origin for the rest of your life, what would it be and what do you enjoy about it?

So hard to answer that, it’s like asking someone who works in a music store what their favourite album is! But if I REALLY had to choose, I’d have to say a really nice light roasted Ethiopian Yirgacheffe (preferably a natural) for its supreme fruity and floral yumminess!

Tasty treat with your coffee or pure, straight-up and solo?

Does a cigarette count as a tasty treat? If not, again this is mood-dependent; sometimes with a croissant, but most often just straight-up.

At Legado we are inspired by the pioneers and explorers of old, breaking open new frontiers & changing landscapes. If you were one day pondered upon as such a character in history, what would you like to be remembered for?

That dude who laughed and swore a lot, and made a mean Chemex.

(Find Waseem at one of the Johannesburg Exclusive Books Cafes. They current have two, one at Rosebank Mall, and one at Hyde Park Corner, with one at Clearwater Mall coming in December)
